About this calculator
This calculator uses the two main energy components of wine: alcohol and residual sugar.
Formula used:
kcal = (alcohol × 0.789 × 7) + (sugar/1000 × 100 × 4) + 1.5
Where:
- Alcohol: ABV in % vol
- 0.789: Ethanol density
- 7: Kilocalories per gram of alcohol
- Sugar: Residual sugar in g/l
- 4: Kilocalories per gram of sugar
- +1.5: Additional calories from other components
